Amidst all the DevOps chaos
We are doing our best to preserve what DevOps actually means and should look like. Among all the job hunters and seekers DevOps looks more like future Ops. A couple of tools and some money eager brains have flushed the essence of the word, DevOps. We have been into a lot of trouble kissing toads trying to find a person we would call our DevOps guy. The real DevOps people are rare. They understand that it’s important to be hands on every aspect of software development rather than just Automated Ops.
I am many times asked questions like, “I don’t know programming. Will I be able to switch to DevOps”. And then the great big that people have learn’t to answer when asked about DevOps, “DevOps is about culture”. Yes you are right, Partially.
I have witnessed that people who care about others are better at implementing DevOps than anyone else. Being a great person has a lot of impact on the value returned through the DevOps process. Otherwise it’s just automation with nothing changing between teams and silos being untouched. With all the lay offs and skill transformation going on, DevOps is being killed before it even bloomed. DevOps is about people. It starts with you.
